Vintage Red Clay 'Tokoname' Tea Cup, in wooden box
Vintage Red Clay 'Tokoname' Tea Cup, in wooden box
"New" in box vintage item. This is a single red clay 'tokoname' tea cup. It's ceramic art pottery from Japan's Shōwa-era. The hand-painted calligraphy is metallic gold.
The cup seems to be a collectible item from the "Minister of Posts and Telecommunications". I don't know what this means exactly, but other nearly identical items online have a year associated with them, which leads me to believe it's commemorative for a certain year. We just don't know which year, but most likely the 1970s or 1980s.
It comes in the original wooden box, which also features calligraphy. The cup and box are in really nice shape, considering the age.
Cup Dimensions: Height ≈10cm. Diameter ≈6.5cm.
