Vintage item. This is a single ceramic sake warming pitcher, for drinking hot sake. It's ceramic art pottery in a traditional style and shape. It was found stored safely in our former ryokan (Japanese inn) so it was most likely used to actually serve hot sake to guests.
The character illustration is black and orange, and the calligraphy is black. I really like the man and his mustache in the hand-painted illustration, and in searching for similar listings online, I could not find an exact match anywhere. The pitcher is two-tone: the green on top is glossy and smooth with glaze; the bottom is a natural clay color, slightly rough to the touch.
It's from Japan's Showa-era, most likely the 1950s or 1960s, which is when our ryokan was operating. The pitcher is in really nice shape, considering the age, but there are some minor imperfections in the glaze on the top green area, as you can see from the detail photos.

All items in this shop come directly from our two abandoned houses in Japan. These items were packed in boxes, and stored for a minimum of 40 years (the amount of time the house was abandoned), but many items were stored in the house for additional decades prior to being abandoned.
