Vintage Japanese Ceramic Buddhist Pilgrimage Figurine
Vintage Japanese Ceramic Buddhist Pilgrimage Figurine
Vintage item. This is a ceramic figure dressed as a Buddhist Pilgrim, from Japan's Showa-era. The boy is wearing the traditional straw hat, kesa robe, and carrying a bowl. The former owners of the abandoned house we purchased walked the "88 Temples of Shikoku" pilgrimage, as we found their walking stick and scroll with stamps from each temple.
The figure is in nice shape, considering the age, but there are some parts showing wear and age, notably some paint missing from the red bowl, and a few scuffs on the black sleeve, as you can see from the detail photos. The hand-painted face is quite lovely, and some similar figures I saw listed online were not quite as delicate.
Doll Dimensions: Height ≈14cm. Wooden Stand ≈7.5cm x ≈6cm.
